"What's Your Favorite Detox Method?"

Our lifestyles can put our highly evolved systems to the test. “Although the body is normally quite capable of detoxing on its own, rising stress levels, lack of exercise, constipation, and poor diet and lifestyle choices – not to mention the ever-increasing levels of toxins in our environment – can push it to capacity,” says Cathy Wong, ND, a naturopathic doctor, certified nutrition specialist, and author of The Inside Out Diet. “While it’s impossible to avoid toxins completely, it’s important to support your body so it can get rid of them.”

Detoxing can be something you do a little of every day or every quarter. It can include cutting the sugar in your diet, dry-brushing your skin, fasting once a week or doing an all-out liver or gall bladder flush.

To enter this week's Community Contest, simply share your best detox technique and explain why it makes you feel better. This week's contest runs from 9.30.13 through 10.6.13. Winners will be announced on 10.7.13.

Winners will receive an Akea Blast Pack, which is a 3-day Essentials cleanse designed to give your body's digestive system a break and boost the natural cleansing process. Some have reported weight loss, clearer skin, more energy and greater focus, to name a few.

I tried a detox years ago when I was first learning about healthy eating, toxins, etc. I bought a juicer and made fresh juice for breakfast and dinner. After two days, I developed a rash and my left eye started to swell shut. I freaked, thought I was allergic to something I was drinking and stopped the cleanse immediately. Not until years later did I realize my body was actually getting rid of the toxins that had built up over my lifetime and, had I continued, I would have been successful in my goal.

Fast forward to now, I have only done 1 fast/detox since...three weeks ago. I did a 3 day cleanse consuming only Akea Essentials in fresh juice and water. I stupidly decided that would be a great time to give up caffeine. That resulted in a first day of migraine, lethargy and nausea. The second day, I was still a bit foggy. But the third day, I felt great and was 5 pounds lighter.

I am currently doing another Essentials cleanse, which will end with my first gall bladder flush. I'm a bit nervous, but I have great guidance. I feel confident I will feel WAY better come this weekend when I have done what I need to do. Send me good energy, ya'll!
